To sum this up - I would suggest you to get one of the new generation GBA Flash Cards like GBA X-ROM 512M for $69.00 USD. Xrom USB linker connects directly to the GBA or GBA SP similar to F2A and EZFA linker. All of the new cartridge can hold multiple games on a single cart (multiboot) and the best ones come with built-in Realtime Clock that is needed for games like PoKeMoN and Golden Sun that have time related events.

Most of the GBA Flash Cards if used together with PassMe / MagicKey / PassKey DS mods will let you run unsigned code on the Nintendo DS and even play some NDS ROMS, but please check our GBA Flash Card compatibility with DS page for more details.

On a 512M card you will be able to save around 8 commercial gba roms at a time or 100 gb, gbc roms or you can backup couple of thousands of gba PD roms. Cheaper 256M would also work fine, but DO NOT buy a 128M card as there are games that require all of the 128M and some even 256M of space so you will not be able to play them on a 128M card!

One of our long time favorite was EZ-Flash 2 PowerStar Most of the features are the same as EZF Advance but EZ-Flash 2 Power Star has some that are not found on any other cart:

  • To save the battery power and give you more game time it uses 1.8v memory chip instead of the 3.3v on the rest of the flash cards (adds ~5h of play time)
  • Password protection or the Cartridge - if you don't want other to use your e-flash card without you knowing it.
  • Built-in support for Cheat codes and Software reset

XG-Flash linker & card is a good choice for people who to play only GBA game roms. For EEPROM and Flash game saves XG uses AUTO software patches and the software for this linker is updated frequently. XG-Flash also has support from the great LittleWriter software - something that F2A lacks. On XG you can run a special version of PogoShell and so yes you can play NES roms with it!

Flash2Advance linker for the USB is the one that you should look at if you need compatibility with older F2A cards FA Pro and Turbo cards and you need them to work on GBA SP. Other than that this linker is similar to EZFA, but F2A is little more expensive and can not be used as multiboot cable!

The factory that made FA Xtreme USB and Flash Advance Linkers has been closed so if you still can find some shops selling them know that soon they will be gone :(

Lets compare Flash Advance / Flash2Advance / XG-Flash Linker / FA Xtreme and 64M, 128M, 256M, 512M card compatibility with each other.

F2A linker for Printer port doesn't work with GBA SP! The cards work the linker doesn't - so you have to use GB Advance to write roms or get the new F2A USB Linker that is GBASP compatible
